Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. As a young girl of just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She was trained for many years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a partially-time theater school in Oxford in which she learned singing and acting. Before the age of ten she had performed and taken as the main character in several Stagecoach shows and school productions. In 1999 casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was identified by casting agents thanks to Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditioning for eight times. They were chosen to play the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film appearance came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. It also was the most well-received film of the year. The opening Saturday and Sunday the sales were unbeatable. The film was praised by experts, as was the performances of its three stars. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's portrayal "amazing". Emma took home the Young Artist Award as the Most Outstanding Young Actress in an Feature Film. She was later awarded five times for her role in the movie.
